Sustainability
Nuts are one of the lowest-carbon, most environmentally friendly protein sources available. They are dense in calories and protein per acre, feeding more people with less land and leaving more room for biodiversity. As a perennial crop, they don’t require ploughing, which reduces fuel use and leaves delicate undersoil ecosystems alone. When carbon sequestered by nut trees and the land-use change from other types of farming is factored in, some nut farming is actually carbon-negative.
